Abstract : The inhibitive effects of aqueous and alcoholic extracts of zizyphus Spina-Christi on the corrosion of steel in 1.0 M H2SO4 containing 10% EtOH have been studied by chemical measurements [hydrogen evolution and mass loss] and electrochemical measurements [ impedance (EIS) and polarization (PDP)]. The results showed that the inhibition efficiency increases with the increase of zizyphus Spina-Christi concentration, which act as mixed type inhibitor. The inhibitive effect of zizyphus Spina-Christi extracts were discussed in terms of their horizontal adsorption on the metal surface. The adsorption follows Langmuir adsorption isotherm. The addition of 0.01 M chloride ions enhances the inhibition efficiency of zizyphus Spina-Christi plant extracts. The effect of temperature in the rang (20-60)ºC on the performance of the aqueous and alcoholic extracts of zizyphus Spina-Christi at fixed concentrations ( 10.0% and 2.0%) of each them respectively and presence of chloride ions (0.01M) with studied extracts on steel corrosion in 1.0 M H2SO4 containing 10% EtOH was also carried out. The studied extracts show also good inhibition efficiency against the corrosion of steel in H2SO4 at high temperatures in absence and presence of chloride ions.
